In 1864 Sadahide published a multi-volume, woodblock-printed picture book entitled Banshō Shashin Zufu (i.e., Varieties of Natural Phenomenon). It included many picture of flowers and (or) birds and this gallery shows pictures from volume 8. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Sadahide’s style was typical of mid-18th century Japanese artists of the Utagawa family. To entertain picture viewers they often changed the true shapes and (or) colors of objects. Pictures 2-5 in this gallery are good examples. To see additional pictures from this book click here.
